Philosophy

Teaching Statement

As an art teacher, my philosophy centers around a holistic approach to education. I believe that art is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing works but as a subject, nurtures the complete development of a student. I am committed to fostering an inclusive classroom where students voice and engagement is at a focal point in the classroom. In this collaborative environment I wish to treat my students with profound trust and respect and by acknowledging their individuality, aim to empower them to take ownership of their learning and development as young adults.

I firmly believe in the integration of fun and creativity.  I strive to make each lesson engaging, interactive, and enjoyable, recognizing that when students have fun, they become more enthusiastic and motivated learners. Whether it's experimenting with new techniques, or exploring unique materials, I want students to relish the creative process. This sense of enjoyment not only fosters a love for art but also cultivates a positive attitude toward learning as a whole. I aim to create an environment where the playful act exploration goes hand in hand with creating art.

In my classroom visual art education goes past the concept of creating pretty pictures, I hope to open student’s eyes to the ways of seeing visually and encourage them to explore different perspectives and question different viewpoints in order to learn. This transformative approach to visual arts extends beyond the classroom, teaching students the skills and mindset that can be applied in various aspects of life.

I am dedicated to showing my students that art is a tool for expressing emotions, ideas, and societal issues. It's a medium through which they can find their voices and make a difference in the world. I emphasize the importance of creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration as essential life skills that art can nurture.
